Air quality dynamics

Since data from the automatic monitoring stations is received in real time (without prior examination), cases of incorrect data representation or temporary absence of data are possible due to absence of connection or malfunction of the equipment

Air quality monitoring system in Moscow is based on automatic air quality monitoring stations
Automatic air quality monitoring stations work nonstop and look like pavilions equipped with specialized analytical measurement devices. Each station is equipped with life support systems, which ensure proper functioning of the measuring devices. For example, temperature inside the station is supported in the range from 15 to 25 0C as needed to assure proper functioning of the measuring devices.

Analytical equipment, used in the system, is certified and regularly verified.

Measurements are carried out continuously, averaged every 20 minutes and sent to the analytical center along with the meteorological data.


For most of the controlled pollutants maximum allowable concentrations (MACs) are set by the Russian hygienic regulations. MAC is a maximum concentration of the chemical substance in the environment, which during the defined time of exposure just will not cause any harmful effects on human health. According to the Sanitary Rules and Standards 2.1.6.1032-01 two types of MACs are set: short-time (one-time) and daily average. Some substances, however, have no MACs.
